Topic: What is the best route to reposition myself in the field of banking?
jason (8/31/09): Thank you so much for your response. My suggestions is to have an investment banking job search checklist to improve the quality of the site. It will give would be banker a guide to determine if they are going down the right path.
bankingorbust (8/29/09): jason: If your goal is to find a job in investment banking, you should target a top-20 MBA or Masters in Finance degree – preferably top-10. If you score above 700 on the GMAT, you can probably leverage your background in finance and in the Marines to gain admission. The other option is to network like mad with the goal of obtaining a position as an IB analyst. While you are on the older end of the scale, you are not necessarily too old to interview for analyst jobs. If you could find a position, that would probably be your best bet. Then, attend business school after a couple more years of experience. However, because the market is so competitive right now, your time might be better suited in a graduate program, which will facilitate networking with investment banks and other financial firms while helping you prepare for interviews.
jason (8/27/09): I am 26 years old with limited banking experience; Lehman Brothers Capitial Markets and IBD Media for two summer. After that went into the U.S Marine Corps for two years was medically relased. I am at the cross roads. Should I seek and analyst position or pre-mba position or should apply to an medicore ( non-top ten business school because I have limited experience or should I get a masters of finance degree
