Full-time MBA
Attending school full-time is a big commitment. Many of the top schools only offer full-time programs. Due to the demanding nature of the program, employment during the school year is typically not permitted. If you are considering a full-time program, you should factor into your budget the opportunity cost of forgone income.
However, attending a full-time program with other full-time students often allows for better networking opportunities and a more communal feel to the program. If you’re looking to change careers, it will probably be much easier to do so in a full-time program.
If you’re thinking of enrolling in a full-time program, consider the following:
Factor in the opportunity cost of no full-time income for two years. Some part-time programs can be done in two years, without having to give up your current income.
Find out if your company will sponsor you for full-time enrollment. Some will, provided you agree to a commitment afterwards, ranging anywhere from one to five years. A one-year commitment may not sound like much, but if you’re trying to change careers, it may hamper your networking opportunities.
